REGION FEATURED ON "ANGELA'S ADVENTURES" ON KTVQ "Angela's Adventures" is a segment that airs every other Sunday on Q2 at 5:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. The focus of each story is on an outdoor activity. The goal behind each story is to motivate Montanans and Wyomingites to get out and enjoy their surroundings. Angela (and her cameraman) visited the Region's Father's day event at GM Petroleum on June 19th and were given a quick introduction into the sport of autocross/solo. Like all other first-timers, Angela walked the course and took her first runs under the capable tutelage of an experienced driver--in this case--Regional Executive Chris Brewer. In quick order, Angela was looking for more speed out of Brewer's Mini. Angela also rode with Scott Cranston in his GT3 and R.J. Matthews in his STI. (However, the real highlight was shoehorning Angela's cameraman--and camera--into the back seat of Brewer's car!) Click here to see and hear more about her visit. DO YOU KNOW YOUR SCCA SOLO RULES? More than one hotshoe at the recent Top Gun event in Helena could be overheard stating/bragging that they "touched 90 (mph) on their last run. Do the SCCA Solo Rules impose any speed limits for Solo events? If so, are there different limits for straight stretches on courses and for turns? Speeds are subject to the discretion of the Safety Steward based on the parameters of the event site -or- |
FEBRUARY MEMBERSHIP MEETING Agenda: 2012 Event Schedule and entry fees
REGION YEAR-END PARTY and ANNUAL AWARDS The Region reinstated a long tradition by holding a year-end, potluck get-together at R.E. Chris Brewer's house. Along with that tradition came the awarding of the Grant Cameron Memorial Most Improved Driver of Year Award and the Dick Hager Memorial "Spirit of the Sport" Award. The Region was proud to (at long last) bestow Driver of the Year honors on long-time Region member, Dwight Gilliland. Gillliland--who has more driving talent (and experience) in his little finger that anyone else in the Region--genuinely appeared humbled by the accolade. J. Reuss accepted the "Spirit of the Sport" award. In presenting the award, R.E. Brewer noted that "J. does all those things for the Region that no one else wants to do." The evening was also highlighted by a delicious turkey barbequed by Brewer and a thorough workout of the driving simulator in his "man cave." Check the Region's Facebook page for more photos.
SOLO AT RIMROCK AUTO TRUCK CENTER (II) Sunday, September 25th dawned bright and warm. After buying a cheap pair of sunglasses (I’d forgotten my trademark Aviators at home)..... to read more from the Newsletter Editor's brother, click here (Results)
SOLO AT SKYVIEW HIGH SCHOOL (III)
Food Services of America (FSA II)
Dustin Park posted some nice videos like the one above of his Mazdaspeed 3 at Skyview and Yellowstone Drag Strip. After the video plays, type "Yellowstone SCCA" into the search box at the top of the YouTube screen. Dustin's "driver's view" video of Yellowstone Drag Strip is a must-see! Click here. For those of you that are a bit more "old school," former Region Member Gordon Dewey has uploaded various autocross videos to YouTube dating back to 1990. To watch Gordy putting his 1983 15th Anniversary Hurst/Olds through its paces at Skyview High School, click here. (Skyview looks pretty much as it does now, but there was not much in the way of houses around the campus back then.) If you click on Gordy's link--unknownporker--on YouTube you will be treated to a variety of other videos uploaded by Gordy over the years including a 1994 video from Vo-Tech featuring a KTVQ Sports Challenge with Jim Conner. The video features a variety of shots of Dennis McCollough (when he was much younger!). |
MEMBER PROFILES Check out this new feature by clicking here or on "Member Profiles" above. A new member profile will be added each month, so check back often. Profiles of the Region's "elder statesmen," Jim Coons and Scott Cranston, are now online. CLICK HERE FOR THE FEBRUARY NEWSLETTER
